Four cars were at the Brooklands British Sports Car Day - Tim Martin's, Ernie Felix's, Bob MacDonald's and Tony Hunt's GTDs were much admired. Bob MacDonald's immaculate metallic red car with brown leather interior was a welcome newcomer to add to the 'usual suspects'!
Because the event was held in the Brooklands car park, it was HOT! But John Bransgrove had thoughtfully supplied a gazebo which kept the worst of the sun off.
The notorious Brooklands Test Hill, which had seen the better of many light cars in the 1920s and 1930s, was available for anyone who wanted to try it. The bumpy surface provoked a lot of wheelspin, but without exception modern engines provided sufficient torque to require braking to avoid flying off the hump at the top! Needless to say, none of the GT40 pilotes were willing to try the undersides of their car's noses on the Hill's bumps!
Combined with fascinating displays of period cars and (slight later) aircraft, it made for a really interesting day out.
Pics show the line up in the heat of the early morning.
